There
is nothing like staying at a working farm to restore your spirit. Our
fully furnished guest house for our farm vacation is available year
round. It is located in the Catskills, about two hours from New York
City.
The
guest house has 3 bedrooms, living room, dining room, fully equipped
kitchen, bath, study, large deck and sleeping porch. The house
sleeps 5 (additional charge for more people). A two night rental
(minimum) is $400.00; $975 for one week (6 nights), plus room tax.
Linens are provided, but not food. The dining room looks out
toward the horse paddocks. The farm has wireless high-speed Internet
connection. There are many toys, games and videos for children.
Well-behaved dogs are welcome.
You
are welcome to join us as we do daily chores, give grain and hay to
horses, sheep and goats and milk several does. We invite you to pick up
from the garden and gather eggs for our enjoyment during your stay with
us. In January and April we expect 50 lambs and kids to be born.
We plant cold hardy veggies in April and tomatoes in our plastic hoop
house in May. Salad greens are picked until early fall. Starting
in June we make hay.
We
are pleased to show you around the farm, introducing you to our
animals, garden and renewable energy systems. If you want to learn to
make goat cheese, bake bread, spin wool, process vegetables or have a
consultation on your home or business concerning energy conservation,
we will be happy to accommodate you.
We are 10 minutes from Bethel Woods, the original site of the Woodstock Festival. There season runs from June until October. www.bethelwoodscenter.org. For chamber music try the Weekend of Chamber Music Festival in July: www.wcmconcerts.org.
There are many folk and blue grass concerts, church and firehouse
barbecues and pancake breakfasts. Check the Sullivan County Visitors’
Association at www.svca.net
for listings. Also listed are local restaurants, several serving meat
and produce from the area. Our low Slow Food chapter has events
throughout the year. The Blue Deer Retreat Center and Home for
Ancestral Traditions in Margaretville, www.bluedeer.org, offers weekend workshops and drumming circles.
The local weekly Farmers Market are open May through November with a special Christmas Market in December in Callicoon. Check www.sullivancountyfarmersmarkets.org for locations and schedules.
Crystal
Lake is about 10 miles away on New York State land. An afternoon at the
lake is very special – a part of the county untouched by development.
There are no services offered there. Perfect for a leisurely hike and
refreshing swim.
